A man who killed a promising young doctor with a single punch to the head was today starting a four-year jail sentence.
Disappointed police have called for the sentence handed to John Cox, 28, at Basildon Crown Court to be extended.
Unemployed Cox was under the influence of drink and cocaine when he struck Dr Patrick Landers, 28, of Nottingham, outside Storm nightclub, in Elmer Approach, Southend.
Cox, of Elmer Avenue, Southend, pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Judge Philip Clegg described Dr Landers as having a brilliant career ahead of him in the field of genetic science.
