Thieves stole £1,000 from a 92-year-old after ransacking his home.
The pensioner was working in the front garden of his house in Lodge Road, Little Oakley, when he was approached by two men yesterday.
They had a conversation with him and he later discovered that the money had been taken.
An Essex Police spokesman said it was believed both thieves carried out the raid, slipping into the house after distracting the elderly man.
"When he went back into his home, he found that two rooms had been ransacked and the cash stolen," he said.
The spokesman said it is feared the men could target other pensioners in the Tendring area. They raided the property just before 3pm yesterday.
They were both in their mid-20s, about 6ft to 6ft 2in tall, with short fair hair. Both were clean shaven one wore a white or cream top.
Witnesses should contact DC Alan Cooper on 01255 221312.
