A father-of-three today told how surgeons were amazed he didn't die after being hit by bottle-wielding thugs he asked to stop ripping up his fence.

Terry McKenna was left with blood gushing from a major artery which had been sliced open when he was smashed over the head with a bottle.

Terry was driving home when he saw two men smashing up his fence in Malgraves, Pitsea. He approached the pair and simply asked them for the broken parts of his fence back.

The next thing he knew he had been hit on the top of the head.
