Bobby Bowry says he is 'in limbo' as he waits to hear whether Colchester United will be offering him a new deal.

The midfielder, 31, is one of 11 U's players looking for a new contract at the end of the season.

Speaking to the Evening Gazette Bowry said: "I was hoping to hear something by now.

In limbo: Bobby Bowry is waiting to hear if his future is at Layer Road.

"A few of us are in limbo because we just want to know what's happening.

"We have asked them (the club) what's going on and we hope to hear something soon."

Bowry's colleague Chris Keeble was this week told that he can go at the end of the season, while Micky Stockwell and Joe Dunne are also leaving Layer Road.

Others out of contract include skipper Scott Fitzgerald, Kevin Rapley, Mark Warren, Gavin Johnson, Alan White, Richard McKinney, Joe Keith, Scott McGleish, Pat Baldwin and Marc Canham.

Bowry added: "My agent says there are a few clubs interested in me, but ideally, if the terms are right, I'd like to stay at Colchester because I've really enjoyed my football here."

Bowry was a regular under former boss Steve Whitton but has started just three games since Phil Parkinson arrived at the end of February.

Bowry said: "The manager said he has wanted to give others a chance to see what they can do.

"It has been a bit frustrating. I was gutted when I was left out against Luton (on Monday) after playing well against Cardiff last Saturday."

On the contracts' situation, Parkinson told the Gazette: "I am talking to players all the time and we will make announcements if and when they happen."
