Ongar residents got their first taste of the future when they tested the pioneering new electronic voting system that will be used in Thursday's elections.
The Spanish company, Indra, who are behind the touch-screen voting machines brought an example to Frank Bretton House, Bansons Way, so Ongar residents could see what the future holds.
The machines will be tested in all the districts polling stations as part of a Government backed trial which, if successful, could spell the end for the ballot paper and the all night count.
Chief Executive, John Burgess, said: "I am very proud Epping Forest District Council has been chosen yet again for these nationals trials. As one of only 17 selected councils it shows the respect and confidence in which our election staff are held. I would encourage everyone entitled to vote to turn out and try this new equipment."
The idea behind the Government's new electronic voting systems is to stem the worrying decline in voter turn-out at recent elections.
