People who have had orthopaedic surgery, particularly those who have had joint replacements, are being asked to step out for charity at the Broomfield Hospital Walk and Fun Day.

The sponsored walk, being held on Sunday June 22, is open to anyone who has undergone orthopaedic surgery.

A hospital spokeswoman said, "The walk itself is a mile long around the hospital grounds, but for those who can't manage that distance a shorter route will also be available. For those who become tired or uncomfortable there will be plenty of help available.

"Anyone who doesn't want to tackle the walk themselves can nominate someone to do it on their behalf. Walkers can be accompanied by family, friends or colleagues who can also raise sponsorship. There will be plenty to keep everyone occupied with a host of events arranged on the day."

The walk begins at 2pm, but the fun will last from noon until 5pm. A jazz band and corps of drums will help to provide the music and there will be Egyptian dancers, sideshows and charity stalls.

Visitors can have a look around Army trucks and tanks, fire engines and classic cars and there will be a barbecue, ice creams and beer tent.

The more energetic can take part in a tug of war, have a go on the bouncy castle, battle it out in the tennis tournament or be prepared to get wet in It's A Knockout.

Also on the cards is face and nail painting, a grand raffle and a children's play area - and even more events and stalls are planned.

The last sponsored walk and fun day raised a grand total of £31,000 and it is hoped this year's event will raise even more.
