A man who injured a policeman's jaw in a scuffle has been ordered to work on his anger.

Stuart Beamer, of Wickham Road, Colchester, admitted assaulting a police constable and damaging a wall on February 10.

Shini Cooksley, prosecuting, said Beamer had broken up with his girlfriend just days before the offence. He had returned to the home they rented and was let in but he became fairly agitated and he butted the wall.

The police were called and as they started to caution him, he went to the kitchen door and darted forward said Mrs Cooksley.

An officer grabbed him and as he swung round, his arm connected with the officer's jaw, she said.

The scuffle continued as the officer held Beamer and tried to calm him down.

"It was clear that he was very aggressive," said Mrs Cooksley.

Paul Baker, mitigating, said Beamer accepts that he has problems with his temper and can be quite volatile when he has been drinking alcohol.

He said Beamer had agreed to leave with the police and accepts that he had been foolish to try to run out of the home.

Mr Baker said Beamer's nose was broken in two places during the struggle.

Colchester magistrates ordered Beamer to complete a 24-month community rehabilitation order, attend intensive aggression sessions, to pay £225 damage for the wall and £50 compensation to the police officer.
