A performing arts school is looking for new recruits to tread the boards in the West End.

Songs from hit musicals including Chicago, West Side Story and Annie were performed at a recent show by budding stars from Braintree Theatretrain at Braintree Institute.

Almost 200 parents, friends and relatives watched the performers, aged between six to 18, who receive specialist coaching in dance, drama and singing every Saturday morning at Braintree and Bocking Community Association.

Theatretrain is now on the lookout for more aspiring stars to join them as they prepare for a real West End show at the Theatre Royal in July.

The theatre is hired for about ten nights in the summer giving all of Theatretrain's 60 centres nationwide the chance to get together and perform in a professional environment in front of friends and family.

Doreen Pharoah, who runs the Braintree group with Lynda Belt, said: "It gives them the chance to experience the excitement of the West End and how to use the skills they've learnt.

"Any child can join Theatretrain regardless of ability. We don't audition because we believe that anyone can be a star. It's about everyone having fun as they learn."

Mrs Belt added: "As well as building confidence and making new friends, many Theatretrain youngsters have gone on to careers in the performing arts."

The Saturday morning sessions are divided in to three age groups: from six to nine, nine to 12 and 13 to 18 year olds. For more information about joining call Lynda Belt on 01702 477430.
