Traffic is making life a nightmare for residents in a busy Southend road, Labour councillors have said.

The problems of people living in Bournemouth Park Road emerged after St Luke's Ward members carried out a survey of 250 homes in the area.

They were seeking residents' views on issues which most affected their quality of life.

Labour spokesman Reg Copley said: "The survey clearly showed taming traffic speeds past their doors tops the list."

He added written responses to the survey clearly highlighted the concerns and fears of residents.

Noise, pollution and concerns over safety worsened in the early hours of the morning.

Mr Copley said: "We have given the survey findings to Southend Council's technical services department and asked them to see what could or should be done to allay fears and concerns among residents."

Assistant director of technical services Graham Dare said: "We have just received the information from the Labour councillors and we will be looking into the concerns which they have raised."
