Maldon's big-hitter Ian Elliott has rejected the chance to play for Suffolk so he can turn out for his home town club.

The 30-year-old from Maldon who has racked up an impressive 418 runs in four outings in the East Anglian Premier League snubbed Suffolk's offer, prefering to play alongside his friends at Drapers Farm.

Despite admitting this year is the best he has had, he felt that Suffolk, who play in the Minor Counties Eastern Division, could have selected him ten years ago rather than now.

"I'm too old. I'm 30 and I'd much rather play for Maldon," said Elliott.

Suffolk director of cricket Kevin Brooks told the Evening Gazette: "We always keep an eye out for players who are performing well and Elliott has been in reasonable form so we asked about his availability.

"It's his own decision. He is not prepared to play for us, but you can only ask the question."

Elliott started his cricket in Maldon playing for the under-11 side and worked his way up.
