Sixteen-year-old Michael Bridger will never forget his first Leigh & Westcliff LTA tennis match -- he won while partnering league chairman Peter Jackson.

The Invicta II pairing defeated Rochford II's Dave Laverack and Allen Farin in a Men's Division Four match.

And their win wrapped up a 6-0 win that put Invicta II at the top of the table on sets for over Rayleigh II.

Rochford II were forced to concede their first rubber because they did not have a pair available.

That was a familiar tale across the divisions in a week that saw many teams pick up walkovers.

But the biggest shock came in Men's Division One where Westcliff Hard and Southend Lawn were forced to scratch two of their three matches because they only had one pair.

Hard could only field Darren Bertola and Andy Bacon -- who lost 6-2 6-1 to Geoff Burdett and Keith Palmer -- in their fixture away to Thorpe Bay.

And Kevin Barrs and Alan Heffer were the only Southend Lawn players available to face Rayleigh at Watchfield Road. They lost 6-0 6-3 to Steve Higgins and Mike Pearson.
