More measures to ban heavy goods vehicles could be placed on a road in Rivenhall.

Last year, Rivenhall Parish Council successfully applied for a weight restriction on a section of Oak Road from the junction with Henry Dixon Road in to the village.

But now it wants to extended the 7.5-tonne restriction to cover the rest of the road between the Rivenhall Fox junction with the A12 and Henry Dixon Road.

Parish Council chairman Bob Turner said the main problem occurred with traffic on the slip roads off the A12 at the Rivenhall Fox junction and the narrowness of Oak Road itself.

He said: "Two HGVs cannot pass on that section of road. So if you have one going on to the A12 and one coming off, the road is completely blocked. Lorries frequently mount the pavement and the pathways are very narrow there, which is a danger to pedestrians.

"Restricting the size of vehicles would make a tremendous difference to the quality of life to people who live along that section of Oak Road."

Essex County Council has agreed to carry out an origin and destination survey of HGVs using the road.

In the meantime Mr Hurst will meet Kelvedon and Feering Preservation Society and the Highways Agency on June 13 to discuss traffic issues
