Children from across Castle Point were today urged to stand up and be counted in a fresh drive to improve a vital resource centre in the borough.

Suzie Brutnell, the co-ordinator at the volunteer bureau based at the Tyrells Centre, wants people to come forward and help build a sensory garden at the base in Seamore Avenue, Thundersley.

She is targeting energetic youngsters for help as they will soon be free of exams and on their school summer holidays.

Suzie said: "This is a great opportunity for young people to volunteer with their friends.

"They can combine having fun with getting a tan and ultimately making a real difference in the community. The garden is just one of the treats in store for Tyrells Centre users and the public, the project aims to improve relationships between the different generations of Castle Point and the garden will be open to the public on completion."

The ongoing revamp project at the Tyrells Centre, an innovative resource centre for older people, has already seen youngsters help create a decorative new entrance.

If you would like to offer some of your time, or would like more information about what will be happening, please call Suzie on 01268 638416.

Businesses offering help should contact centre manager Gerry Moore on 01268 638402.
