A knife-wielding crook robbed a man of his mobile phone, £15 and a neckchain.
Police said the 21-year-old victim was walking along Riviera Drive in Southend when he was approached by the robber.
The crook snatched the neckchain from the man's neck and ran off towards Ambleside Drive at 10pm on Monday.
He is described as white, aged about 35, 5ft 11 ins tall, medium build, wearing a baseball cap, striped T-shirt and dark tracksuit bottoms.
