Harwich MP Ivan Henderson has been to the launch of a group bidding to bring the Olympics to London.

Mr Henderson is a member of the all-party group aiming to secure the 2012 games.

He said: "If the Olympics come to London, there will be tremendous possibilities for the Tendring district and I want to make sure that we are fully involved at the earliest opportunity.

"The number of visitors that would arrive through the Haven Gateway would be enormous and our close proximity to London makes the Tendring district ideally suited as a base for these visitors."

Among those at the launch were Mayor of London Ken Livingstone and Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Tessa Jowell.
