Elderly bus passengers living inside Frinton's railway gates face a long walk during the peak holiday period.
Buses have been banned from going into the resort for much of the day in a bid to ease town centre congestion in the traffic-clogged streets.
Some passengers are angry because they say they were not warned sufficiently of the cutbacks by bus company First.
Disgruntled passengers have been swamping community representatives with complaints since the change this week.
Lee Berry, First's divisional manager, said the change in the summer was necessary if the bus service was to be kept on time. "One bus which is held up in the traffic will throw the whole thing out of kilter," he said.
