A 20-year-old man has died following a car crash at Ulting, near Maldon.
The man had been driving a Renault Clio along the B1019 between Maldon and Hatfield Peverel when he was involved in a collision with a Ford Fiesta car at Doe's Corner yesterday evening.
The driver of the Fiesta, a 51-year-old woman from Heybridge, was taken to Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, suffering from multiple fractures.
The man, who is also believed to live in the Heybridge area, was taken to hospital with head injuries but died shortly afterwards.
Road blocks were put up at the Langford end of the B1019 and the Ulting turning was also coned off.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which took place at about 7.15pm, and are asking people to contact PC Lance Hutchins at the central road policing unit on 01245 452918.
