Two heroes who rescued a suicidal woman from a river in Chelmsford, are to be honoured with a top award.
Steven Lane, of Hilary Close, Chelmsford and Steven Brewer, of Mersey Road, Witham, risked falling into near freezing water at the meeting point of the rivers Chelmer and Can in February.
Now both are to be presented with an award by the Royal Humane Society.
In a citation for the heroes, the society says that the woman had jumped into the river in an attempt to take her life, but then found a rope and hung on to it.
Mr Lane and Mr Brewer climbed on to a narrow ledge and coaxed her to move towards them.
After about 10 minutes, she was within their range and they managed to haul her on to the ledge and to safety.
