A long-awaited sensory garden may never be completed unless thousands of pounds in sponsorship can be found.
The designer of a new garden at the Tyrells Centre in Thundersley has expressed concern just days after volunteers moved into clear the land.
Leading project designer Lisa Hawker said extra sponsorship from local businesses was needed to get the structural aspects of the garden off the ground.
Several thousand pounds would be needed for the finishing touches like garden sculptures and a seating area.
"We are aiming at opening the garden next year, but we are looking for funding solutions," she said. "We are trying to get outside sponsorship from local firms."
An overall revamp project at the centre in Seamore Avenue has been funded by Essex County Council and Castle Point Council. The garden is said to be the only part which needs sponsorship.
Offers of sponsorship should be made to Lisa, on 07889 278756, or call the centre on 01268 638400.
