Birdlovers could mount a vigil at a quayside to protect the famous swans that gather there.
They fear the white-plumed birds at Mistley are being picked-off, killed and mutilated and are considering keeping guard over them.
As reported in the Evening Gazette, police are investigating three attacks on swans in the village in the past week.
Alex Smith, founder member of Swans in Need, said: "One goose was sitting here yesterday and he or she was waiting for another one to come along, but it didn't and we are worried it has been picked off by men in boats.
"Some of us are considering maintaining some sort of vigil. I can't believe that so many people don't respect the fact that these animals are beautiful and free."
