Elderly patients are waiting more than a year for hearing tests, the matron of a Frinton nursing home has claimed.

Rosemary Dandy, who works at Reed House residential home for the elderly blind, says two of her patients, aged 94 and 86, have been told to wait more than a year for their next check-up.

"Being blind, these people are very reliant on their hearing and without it feel isolated," she explained.

A spokesman for Essex Rivers Healthcare Trust confirmed the problems of staff shortages and crowded waiting lists meant the situation had not changed for those waiting up to a year for their next appointment. However, they may be seen sooner if the problems could be sorted out.
