A lack of parking spaces at Colchester's hospital left a worried angina suffering patient waiting to be collected by her family.

Trudie Brown's husband and son were caught up circling Colchester General Hospital's car park looking for a spot.

The 72-year-old, of Tiptree, grew worried when they failed to turn up, after she was brought in by paramedics and treated for angina and a bad chest infection earlier that day.

Eventually, her 83-year-old husband, Reg, who has difficulty walking, was dropped off at the entrance.

A survey revealed recently that poor parking provision at the hospital is hampering healthcare. There have been reports of long waits for ambulances waiting to drop off patients.

A spokesman for Essex Rivers Healthcare NHS Trust said there were problems with parking meters last week, which compounded the "significant" troubles experienced by the site.

He said: "There are times when demand outstrips supply and we apologise for any inconveniences caused."
