An experience of a life time was had by two Billericay pupils who swapped the classroom for work placements with a difference.

Year 11 pupils at Mayflower School in Stock Road, took a break from studying their GCSEs to spend two weeks in the world of work.

Fifteen-year-old Jamie Lee Surridge and 16-year-old Amy Lee organised work experience placements that were a "dream come true" and said they did not want to go back to school.

Jamie spent two weeks working at an English cinema and a performing arts school near Alicante in Spain, while Amy worked in the marketing department of Manchester United Football Club at Old Trafford.

Amy said: It was brilliant and I didn't want to come home. I'm a huge Man United fan so it was a dream come true.

"Everyone at school was quite jealous. I only told my close friends at first but when word started to get around, loads of people came up to me especially the boys and said 'I can't believe you're going to Man United'.

"I got to do some amazing things while I was out there - I went to a sponsorship conference which they only hold once a year, I spent a day in the ticket office working on the computer, and I was taken around the pitch.

"Unfortunately I didn't get to meet the players, but I have met them once before when I visited a training day with my Dad."
