Villagers are being urged to report heavy vehicles using a bridge to the police.
Derek Whitnell, chairman of Weeley Parish Council, told Essex highways bosses who attended a parish meeting last night that large vehicles were breaking the rules by driving over the railway bridge, which has a weight restriction.
Mr Whitnell said a number of people had reported the problem in Clacton Road to him and it was causing concern over its stability.
Samir Pandya, district manager for highways, urged people to take note of the registration numbers and report them to the police.
