Ace marksman Wayne Andrews is confident he and his Colchester United team-mates can emulate Benny Fenton's cracking U's side of the mid-1950's.

Fenton's 1956-57 squad, rated by many Layer Road pundits as the U's best ever, were pipped to promotion from the old Division Three (South) - today's Second Division - by just one point.

But the lightning-quick Andrews believes Phil Parkinson's current squad can go all the way this term after one of the club's best ever starts to a season.

Just for good measure U's leading scorer Andrews, with ten League and cup strikes to his credit already, has Ken Plant's 24-goal top tally from that wonderful '56-57 season firmly fixed in his sights as well.

Boosted by another goal - his fifth in five matches - in last Saturday's tremendous 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday, the former Watford and Oldham front-runner today told the Evening Gazette: "Everyone is buzzing.

"And we've definitely got what it takes to go one better than that earlier Colchester side."
