Police have seized what are believed to be Ecstasy tablets and cannabis with a street value of more than £1,000.
Around 15 pills were found on a 25-year-old man in the Towngate Pub, Westgate Park, Basildon, after police were called to a fight.
A further 16oz of suspected cannabis resin and a teaspoon of white powder were later recovered at the man's Basildon home.
He was arrested on suspicion of possessing and supplying drugs and released on bail until January 15.
The substances have to be tested to confirm they are drugs.
Leading the investigation Det Con Alex Deacon, of Pitsea CID, said: "We are keen to disrupt anyone concerned in the supply of drugs in the Basildon division."
