The first stage of consultation has been launched on a revolutionary rail scheme which could transform public transport for commuters in Brentwood, Billericay and Wickford needing to get across London as quickly as possible.
Cross London Rail Links (CLRL) the company charged with taking the Crossrail project forward is undertaking a major consultation drive up until December 3.
Information centres are being set up in towns along the proposed route and towns which will link into Crossrail which will connect East and West London.
At a temporary exhibition staged in Brentwood High Street youngsters from nearby Brentwood County High were invited to help test public opinion.
Head of geography Richard Davies said seven pupils had spent three to four hours in the High Street talking to around 150 residents: "Most of the people they spoke to were very positive. About a half of those interviewed had not actually heard about the project before, but the overwhelming majority were in favour."
