Plans to build a multi-storey car park and fast food restaurant in Witham have been deferred in a surprise decision by councillors.
Members of the Witham area committee passed a recommendation last night to give planning officers at Braintree Council more time to consider issues concerning the proposal for a car park for up to 700 spaces in Cut Throat Lane, Witham.
Les Mitchell, area development control manager at Braintree Council, told members matters concerning the proposed location of the restaurant and access to the site had arisen needing further consideration.
He said these issues needed to be resolved before the application could move to the decision process which is now likely to be in December.
The application from businessman, Peter Tuck, was for a five floor car park, a take-away food restaurant with car, motorcycle and cycle parking on an existing 300-space temporary car park.
Mr Tuck did not want to comment on the decision by the committee
