A town centre was gridlocked following an accident in which a bus driver had to be cut from his crushed cab.
Six passengers were taken to Basildon Hospital following the head-on accident.
The road chaos -- which brought most of the traffic in Grays to a standstill -- lasted for nearly two hours yesterday afternoon.
Firefighters used cutting equipment to free the driver. He had been showered with glass from the head-on impact.
The accident happened at the junction of Clarence Road and Stanley Road at 1.30pm.
A white van was in collision with the 101 bus service to Billericay.
There were two people in the Leyland Daf van.
The injured bus driver was placed on a spine board by ambulancemen.
