First aid should be taught in schools as part of the national curriculum, says Colchester MP Bob Russell
He is championing a Bill put forward in the House of Commons, which would provide for the subject to be taught, and is today due to have ten minutes to sell the idea to other MPs.
He has been allocated time after Prime Minister's Questions for what is known as a Ten Minute Rule Bill.
His Bill has the support of St John Ambulance and there is also cross-party support for the proposal.
Mr Russell said: "I believe that if children were taught first aid in schools by suitably qualified first aiders, this would have considerable benefit to the community at large."
