Alexandra Khan, 19, came second in FHM magazine's High Street Honeys contest after making the final 10 from 5,000 entries.
Miss Khan, of Great Notley, learned she had missed out on the £10,000 winner's prize and the chance to be on FHM's cover, when the result was announced at a ceremony in London on Monday night.
But the Wolverhampton University drama student and former 2000 Braintree and Bocking carnival queen has her sights set on bigger things in the coming months.
She said: "I have got my first job on Monday and it is a photoshoot with one of the national newspapers."
Miss Khan said she is going to put her studies on hold to try to get more modelling work.
