Hotel chain Travelodge could be taking up residence in one of Colchester's most distinctive buildings.
Plans have been put forward to open a 57-bedroom hotel in part of the former Royal London House in Middleborough alongside offices, a restaurant and flats.
If the proposals are agreed by Colchester Council's planning committee on Thursday, Travelodge looks set to be the company which will be operating the hotel.
The company specialises in budget family and business accommodation with the closest Travelodge hotel to Colchester at the moment being on the A12 at Feering.
A spokeswoman for Travelodge said the hotel at the Royal London site would be targeted at tourists and business customers.
