Richard McKinney stepped back into the Colchester United limelight today after three months in the injury wilderness.
Richard McKinney in action
The talented Northern Irish goalkeeper was named in the U's squad for the reserve-team game against Reading at Didcot Town's Station Road ground.
And the 24-year-old former Manchester City and Swindon keeper told the Evening Gazette of his utter delight at being back where it matters.
"I can't wait to get that number 31 jersey on again and get back into some real action," he said.
"I just want to be involved again.
"It's exactly 12 weeks today since I was injured and it's been hell sitting in the stands having to watch the other lads play."
McKinney has missed the last 19 matches after breaking down with an injury to his right knee following the defeat at Port Vale only four games into the season.
