A much-needed youth centre could be built on the site of the bus garage in Braintree.

The site in Fairfield Road has been identified as the favoured of five options by Essex County Council.

It has decided to investigate the feasibility of a youth centre being leased to it by a developer as part of a mixed residential or community development on the site of the depot which is currently up for sale.

Once investigations have been carried out, county council officers will decide if the option could become a reality.

The county council has finally secured £300,000 towards development of the new centre.

The money comes from the sale two years ago of the old Tabor School site in Panfield Lane, which also housed the Connections youth centre for youngsters in Braintree.

Since then, smaller youth centres have been run in Priory Hall, Halstead, and Alec Hunter School, Stubbs Lane.
