An elderly woman suffered serious injuries in a crash which brought rush-hour chaos to Wivenhoe.
The 86-year-old from St Osyth was a passenger in a Nissan Micra car driven by her 83-year-old husband when it was in collision with a stationary car.
Police, paramedics and fire crews were called to the B1027 Brightlingsea Road, near its junction with Elmstead Road, after the collision was reported.
The female driver of the other car, a Renault Laguna, was not hurt.
But the husband and wife in the Nissan were taken to Colchester General Hospital by ambulance for treatment.
Witnesses to the crash, at about 4.25pm yesterday, should call PC Dave Williams at the road policing unit in Stanway on 01206 762512
