There were mixed fortunes for local clubs last night when second round matches in the Ryman League's Bryco Cup were staged.
Premier Division basement club Billericay Town saw their misery continue when they crashed out 2-1 at home to Division One North Essex rivals East Thurrock United.
Two goals from prolific scorer Paul Cobb, after seven and 81 minutes, led to the weakened New Lodge side ending their interest in the competition -- despite a late rally in which Gary Ansell netted his sixth goal in four games with an 83rd-minute effort.
In an entertaining tie at Burroughs Park, Great Wakering Rovers cast aside their poor form at the wrong end of Division One North to overcome One South visitors Banstead Athletic 2-1.
Premier Division Grays Athletic won 2-0 at Division One South Whyteleafe, while there was a similar winning scoreline for Aveley at Division One North rivals Waltham Forest.
However, Division One North Tilbury went down 4-2 at One South hosts Egham.
