A campaigning grandmother has taken her fight to save her post office to the top.
Dorothy Higgins, 82,of Clacton, has written to Prime Minister Tony Blair about threats to close down her nearest post office in St Osyth Road, Clacton.
She has been out petitioning in the streets with her grandson Paul Mann to try to stop the possible closure.
The St Osyth Road branch and the Southcliff site in Holland Road are both under threat due to new proposals announced by bosses.
The Post Office has gone out to consultation and customers have until December 9 to make their views known.
The area is served by 28 branches which, according to the company, is too many chasing too few customers.
Mrs Higgins and her grandson have collected about 700 names on the petition which has been sent off to the Post Office headquarters.
To help their cause Mrs Higgins has written to Mr Blair to explain the plight of post office customers in the area and has received a letter back saying Mr Blair would have liked to have got involved himself but has passed on the information to the Department of Trade and Industry.
