Proposals to open a sex shop in Kings Road will now not be discussed by Brentwood Council until the New Year.
It was expected that the Licensing Appeals Panel would discuss the issue at its meeting on Monday, December 1, but the matter has been postponed at the request of the applicant.
The application for a sex shop at the junction of Gresham Road has caused massive debate and provoked more than 200 objections including letters, petitions and pro-formas.
The applicant Bright Light Leisure Ltd, which already operates five shops across the south east, has requested the council delay considering its licence application.
It wants more time to review the objections sent in during the 28 day consultation period which closed last Thursday.
A new date has not yet been set for considering the application, but the next panel meeting will not take place until Tuesday, January 13. If it is not dealt with then it may be delayed until February 24.
Head of Environmental Health, Simon Bennett, said his staff were now sifting through the letters sent in by the public in preparation for the report which will eventually be presented to councillors.
