Saturday's Asian event at Braintree library aimed to raise awareness of different cultures.
Organised by North Essex Adult Community College the morning highlighted the Hindu festival Diwali and included Rangoli colouring, which decorates doorsteps and invites good luck, hand decorating using henna and playing Pachisi, an Indian board game.
Sue Craggs, curriculum co-ordinator, said parents and children could also dress in traditional Indian costumes.
"It's to raise awareness of family learning and was designed to be a kickstart to illustrate the different things parents can do with their children," she added.
