A wide-ranging series of measures have been carried out at Thorpe Greenways Schools to try to solve the problem of a minority of parents dropping off their children on the road, causing inconvenience to local people and safety hazards for other pupils.
The final part of the jigsaw which includes a special park and walk area in Southchurch Park and crossings on roads fell into place with the opening of a 20mph speed zone on roads around the school carried out by Southend cabinet member in charge of transport, Brian Kelly.
Head of Thorpe Greenways Infants School, Diana Matthews, said: "The new speed limit will enable children to arrive at school without having to run the gauntlet of speeding vehicles."
