Hooligans smashed a resident's house and car windows yesterday morning after he challenged them for being noisy outside his home while he was trying to sleep.

The man confronted the trio in Fane Road, Benfleet, who were roaring up and down the road on a quad bike.

He went outside and was set about by the three young men, believed to be in their teens.

The man fled back indoors and called the police.

The three then smashed windows to his car and then smashed some windows of his home.

PC Kevin Hemsworth said: "There was a minor assault on the man, although he was not injured, and house and car windows have been damaged. Three males made off in a blue Fiat possibly a Punto or Uno."

Anyone with information on the incident, which happened around 1.25am on Wednesday, is asked to contact PC Clayton Ford stationed at Benfleet on 01268 756221.
