Plans for youth shelters on Canvey are about to be unveiled as police hope to find suitable space for them in the next couple of weeks.

The shelters, the brainchild of Canvey's Insp Steve Rawlings, are hoped to help keep kids entertained and off the streets.

This is the latest plan to combat anti-social behaviour on the island after high visibility police work to locate trouble spots.

Now police will unveil the plans at next week's Canvey West forum so the public can have their say.

Mr Rawlings said: "We want to get a general feel about the plans and hear any suggestions they might have about suitable locations for them."

After patrolling the island targeting under-age drinkers, Mr Rawlings wanted to look at long-term ways of keeping kids out of trouble and felt the best way to do this was to keep them away from boredom.

The plans will be discussed at the Canvey West forum at Castle View School next Wednesday.
