Drivers faced rush-hour gridlock after eight cars crashed on a Colchester road.

The town came to a standstill at about 4.25pm when the collision happened in Cowdray Avenue, right outside the town's fire station.

Firefighters went out to give first aid but police today said no-one was injured in the crash.

It involved a Rover 216, a Honda CRV, a Ford Fiesta, an Audi, a Mercedes 500, a Ford Sierra, a Renault 19 and a Vauxhall Astra.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene at 4.25 pm yesterday and the road was blocked for some time afterwards.
