Residents in Harwich will get the chance to have a major input into the plans for the town's new hospital.
That's the promise from health bosses building the facility in Main Road.
Dr Sue O'Connell, project director for the scheme, said healthcare professionals had already had their say in what should be provided.
Now it was the turn of the patients to help mould the shape of their hospital for the 21st century.
Speaking at Harwich Consortium, she said Tendring Primary Care Trust was well aware of local feelings and importance placed on the facility by residents.
"At the moment you have a lovely hospital with a lot of tradition. We know how important that is, but we have to provide modern, safe medical services."
She would not reveal the total cost of the build but said it was "several million pounds".
Work is due to start in March and be finished by the summer of 2005.
