Plans for a piece of artwork costing £390,000 of public money for Southend's Pier Hill have been revealed.
Famous artists have been lining up to win the commission for the work, part of the revamp of the area currently being carried out.
Southend Council leisure services director John Dalloway said more than 20 nationally and internationally-known artists had been contacted regarding the proposal.
This had been reduced to a shortlist of four who will be interviewed shortly.
The proposal is part of Southend's aims to work with the Arts Council East in a pogramme known as Arts Generate, an initative across the region which is designed to support distinctive programmes.
Mr Dalloway said the council's brief was for the artists to produce a piece of work which utilised digital art and new technology.
