Spending a penny could cost you £80 if you do it on the streets of Colchester.
Deterrent - Colchester police licensing officer Michael Aitchison with the poster warning against urinating in public in Colchester Picture: TERRY WEEDEN
Posters are being put up in pubs and clubs asking people to go to the toilet before they leave rather than doing it in public.
Colchester police licensing officer Michael Aitchison said offenders could be hit with an £80 fixed penalty notice if they are caught urinating in the street.
He said: "Police officers won't hesitate in enforcing the law.
"Town centre residents in particular and visitors to the town do find it offensive and distressing."
The posters will be given out to Pubwatch and LVA members to put up in pubs and clubs
