A children's day nursery and a new dental surgery could soon be built if councillors give plans the go-ahead tomorrow.
Developers want to build a one-storey nursery and a two-storey building, which would house the dental surgery and four flats, on land near Silva Island Way and Salcott Crescent in Wickford.
The site would be landscaped, have car parking and nursery play areas.
In a report to councillors, planning experts said: "The provision of a neighbourhood centre was an obligation placed on the developers of phase two of the Wick, and land was provided for this east of Salcott Crescent.
"Most of the facilities usually found in such centres, such as shops, a doctors' surgery and community centre have already been provided.
"The application site is the last remaining parcel of vacant land at the neighbourhood centre."
Council officers are recommending that the application be granted planning permission and a decision will be made at Basildon Council's development control committee tomorrow at Wickford Infant School in Mount Road, Wickford.
