The Cater Museum in the High Street, was home to the exhibition and saw two actors in 17th Century costume demonstrate how a surveyor and cartographer of the period would have set about making maps.
This was part of an exhibition called Putting Billericay on the Map.
Museum curator Chris Brewster said: "The men have been showing people how to make maps. They have set up the equipment that would have been used by the people of the time. One demonstrated how it was done. We also have an original 17th Century map showing what it would have looked like.
"We have maps of Billericay going back to 1825 and we are encouraging people to find their home or what was on the site of their home. We also have a reproduction 14th Century map of Britain."
