Thurrock Council's street wardens are on the lookout for festively decorated homes.
Prizes ranging from chocolates and wine to a food hamper are on offer to households that - in the opinion of the street wardens - make the most effort to give the outside of their home a festive feel.
They hope it will ensure that as many households as possible get into the festive spirit...tastefully.
Senior street warden Tony Thomas says he is sure the public will rise to the challenge.
"Christmas is a fantastic time to bring the community together and what better way to celebrate than decorating your house?" he asked.
