Firefighters battled to bring a late-night house fire under control.
Crews from Manningtree, Colchester and Weeley were called to the smoke-filled home in Harwich Road, Great Bromley, after the blaze started.
No-one was in the two-bedroomed house and the alarm was raised at about 10.30pm yesterday.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went inside the burning building to tackle the flames.
They used hosereel jets and took about an hour to bring the fire under control before spending the next six hours damping down the building.
The cause of the blaze is not known but was not being treated as suspicious
